The Medicaid & CHIP Access Commission has reported that between July of 2013 and July of 2018, there have been 13.6 million new enrollments in states that have expanded Medicaid – a 35.9% increase. But millions of others are still eligible to enroll. This contrasts with a much lower 1.9 million (10.2%) in non-expansion states.
Since then, six new states have adopted expansion: Virginia, Maine, Montana, Utah, Idaho and Nebraska. In total, 36 states plus the District of Columbia have expanded Medicaid representing 72% of the US population.
